Rehab FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my insurance cover my stay?
Every insurance carrier is different. It is your responsibility to know your insurance policy, however our admitting, business and utilization review offices can discuss with you any questions you may have regarding insurance coverage. The one thing that all insurances have in common is that the patient must be actively participating and making functional progress for services to be covered. All insurances have an appeal process should you be denied coverage.
What is the difference between short-stay rehabilitation and rehabilitation in a long term care setting?
Everyone admitted to MCH, even for long-term care, is screened by therapy to determine appropriateness for services. In order to be admitted to our rehab unit, patients must meet certain criteria, including having a plan to discharge to a lower level of care following rehabilitation. Patients admitted to our rehab unit stay anywhere from a few days to a few months, depending on the complexity of their condition.
How much therapy will I receive and will I receive therapy on the weekends?
Each patient admitted to rehab is evaluated and receives an individualized treatment plan. Depending on each patients' individual needs, they may receive half an hour of therapy daily up to as much as three hours daily. We currently offer physical therapy on Saturdays for all short-stay rehab patients. Therapy on the weekend typically lasts half an hour.
How long will I stay at MCH?
Your length of stay will vary depending on the complexity of your condition and the goals you need to attain for a safe discharge. Our average length of stay is about one month, but many patients are here for just a week. The care team will be discussing your discharge plan with you on an ongoing basis.
What is the food like at MCH?
Patients on the rehab unit are given an enhanced dining experience. A menu is given daily and patients can choose items from the menu. Food is served restaurant-style and patients are encouraged to eat in our dining room.
Is the rehab unit separate from the long term care units and will I have a private room?
The rehab unit is on the 5th floor of the Faith building. It is separate from the long term care units and all the rooms are private. Once our renovations are complete, each room will have its own bathroom as well. Currently, some adjacent rooms are connected by a shared bathroom.
